Ri Wo Sang Chö at 10am

Sunday 18th February 2108

All are invited to take part in a short Ri Wo Sang Chö Practice with Rinpoche on this day. Rinpoche will also bless prayer flags at this time.  Rinpoche strongly encourages people involved in business to raise prayer flags to increase their chances of success and prosperity.  Only cotton flags will be accepted to be raised at Orgyen Chö Dzong.  There will be a charge of $5 per roll to be hung. Individuals are welcome to hang their own flags at OCD.

His Holiness Dungse Shenphen Dawa Norbu Rinpoche explains about Gutor:

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Gutor Reversing Practices work for future prosperity in general and help to remove obstacles to life in particular. Gutor is also very important for reversing bad omens, especially for people whose birth year corresponds to the coming year. Their life may be may be in danger and they might face major obstacles in the foregoing year. Therefore it is good to do reversing practices to remove any impending obstacles. There will be a lot of strong reversing mantras recited and accumulated during Gutor, and there will be special implements that need to be used for subjugation.

Supports for the Reversing Practices

For the reversing practices to be most effective, it is, of course, best if one can participate directly. If this is not possible you can send:

1) An item of your own and of each of your immediate family; that is: a few strands of hair; or cuttings of nails; or a small cutting of clothing—to create a connection with the reversing torma effigy which that will be sent away.  Rinpoche emphasizes that this is especially important if your birth year is that of the Dog.

2) In addition, you can send a list of names of immediate family members, which can be e-mailed to OCDsangha@gmail.com

We should receive all of these items before the 10th of February for ease of preparation.  Please send these items as soon as possible.

Transportation & Accommodation

Please let us know if you’d like to attend. There will be limited availability for people to stay at the center itself, so if you wish to lodge here it is best to inform us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Also, if anyone knows they are coming by car and have any spare seats they could offer others, then again please let us know so we can help coordinate this. (OCD contact details below).

Buddha House Open for Retreat

Buddha House is currently available for anyone interested in doing retreat either before the Gutor/Losar schedule begins or at the end. It is worth mentioning that the first month of the Tibetan calendar is a merit multiplying month and traditionally it is recommended as an auspicious time to go into retreat.

Contribute to Reversing Practices

You are invited to make a contribution towards purchasing offerings for the  Reversing Practices. If you are unable to attend, this is a good way to share in the merit of the practices. Of course, attendees can also contribute. Please send your contribution as soon as possible so that it can be included in the offering on the day. Alternatively, you can pay by check made payable to Orgyen Chö Dzong and mail it to 5345 State Route 81 Greenville NY  12083.

Please note the words “Reversing Practices” on your offering whether by check or PayPal.

Request Lamp Offerings

You are also welcome to have lamp offerings made for you at Orgyen Chö Dzong during any of the above dates––or at any time for any purpose you have in mind. Lamps requested by you are offered on your behalf and dedicated according to your wishes. If you have any questions regarding lamp offerings, please contact Orgyen Chö Dzong directly.

Contribute to the Daily Sang at OCD

We do a massive Ri Wo Sang Chö every morning in front of the stupa OCD. Since it is often difficult to do this purificatory smoke puja at home, you can take part by making a contribution towards the offering substances.
